Itinerary
Arrive in Jaisalmer by train, bus or air, where our representative will transfer you to your hotel. After check-in and some rest, spend the evening exploring the local market near the fort, browsing colourful textiles, mirror-work embroidery and silver jewellery unique to the region. As dusk falls, the golden sandstone of Jaisalmer Fort lights up beautifully, best viewed from a rooftop restaurant nearby over a Rajasthani thali dinner.
Spend the morning exploring Jaisalmer Fort, one of the few "living forts" in the world, where a resident community still occupies the fort's narrow lanes alongside shops, temples and havelis. Continue to Patwon Ki Haveli, an elaborately carved cluster of mansions built by a wealthy merchant family, showcasing intricate stone lattice work (jharokhas) unique to Rajasthani architecture. In the afternoon, visit Gadisar Lake, a serene man-made reservoir surrounded by small shrines and ornamental gateways, popular for a relaxed boat ride. Return to the hotel by evening to rest ahead of the desert safari.
After breakfast, check out and drive approximately 40 km to the Sam Sand Dunes. Spend the afternoon enjoying a camel safari across the rolling golden dunes as the sun begins to dip, followed by an optional 4x4 jeep dune-bashing session for those seeking more adrenaline. As evening falls, settle into your desert camp for a cultural program featuring Rajasthani folk music, Kalbelia dance performances and a traditional buffet dinner served under the open desert sky. Spend the night in comfortable Swiss or traditional tents, waking up to a still, silent desert sunrise.
Wake up early at the desert camp to watch the sunrise over the dunes, a fittingly serene end to the safari experience. After breakfast at the camp, check out and drive back to Jaisalmer, from where our vehicle will transfer you to the railway station or airport for your onward journey, concluding a trip that blended the Golden City's medieval architecture with the raw beauty of the Thar Desert.
